Local Area
Llanfechain is a small and beautiful village in the Cain Valley in mid Wales, it is steeped in history and has also been known as Llanarmon ym Mechain. The battle of Mechain was fought around 1067 for the rule of Powys and Gwynedd. Bleddyn ap Cynfyn won the day and united Powys and Gwynedd.
There is also a medieval motte and bailey in the village and there are plenty of beautiful walks locally, such as the Llanfechain Circular Trail and the village is close to Powys Castle, Lakes Vynwy and Bala and just 20 minutes drive to Snowdonia.
The Memorial Hall, provides the social hub; including a Village Shop; a Recreation Area, with a Children’s play area and football pitch, providing a central park area on which, each year, on August Bank Holiday, the village holds an impressive Show.
