The Battle of Mechain 1065 or 1069

The Battle of Mechain was fought in 1069 (some suggest the date as 1065) at Llanfechain near St Garmon’s Well (Where is that?).  The battle was between Bleddyn and Rhiwallon  ap Cynedd half brothers of Gruffydd ab Llewelyn against Meredydd and Ithel the sons of Gruffydd, in which the latter were defeated and Ithel slain.  They were supposedly buried in the field which is now across the ‘turnpike road’ (not sure where that is) and was part of Brongain.  Because of cultivation the burial mound has regretably been levelled but is still just visible.  The victorious Bleddyn assumed sovereignty of Gwynedd and Powys.
